Vatican pays tribute to Leonard Cohen, who has died aged 82

The Vatican’s President of the Pontifical Council for Culture has paid tribute to renowned singer, songwriter and poet Leonard Cohen, who has died at the age of 82.

The Canadian artist, who penned the haunting classic Hallelujah, passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles, his son, Adam, said.

No further details have been given of his death, which comes just weeks after he said he was “ready to die” in an interview.

‘I’ll stand before the Lord of Song With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah (‪#LeonardCohen‬)’, he wrote.

Cohen released his 14th and final studio album, You Want It Darker, last month.
