Tributes after teen dies in pond tragedy
A Catholic college has paid tribute to a ‘well-loved’ pupil after her body was recovered from a pond.
Ss Peter & Paul Catholic College in Widnes, Cheshire, said the community is ‘shocked and saddened’ following the death of Teya Davies, 14.
Teya was found by police in the stretch of water in Clincton Woods, Widnes, on Saturday, 4th August after a search was launched following fears she may have fallen in.
The college said staff and students would ‘truly miss her lively character, caring nature and beautiful smile’.
‘The whole community is shocked and saddened to hear the devastating news that Teya Davies has passed away.
‘Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. Teya was well-loved by staff and students here at Sts Peter and Paul. We will truly miss her lively character, caring nature and beautiful smile,’ read a notice on the college’s website.
The college opened on Tuesday 7th August from 11am to 1pm ‘to offer comfort and support to our students and staff at this difficult time’, including a memorial board and opportunity for quiet reflection and prayer in our college Chapel,’ it said.
One local father said the “very sad” incident happened in a poorly-maintained pond which is “not suitable for swimming” because it is full of “weed, silt (and) rubbish”.
