Piers Morgan cleared over comments

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan will not be investigated by Ofcom following comments he made that viewers felt “implied all Christians were homophobic”.

The media watchdog said they had assessed a number of complaints that Morgan’s tone was ‘offensive and discriminatory towards Christians in an interview’.

‘We noted that the interviewee was given several opportunities to respond. He stated he was not homophobic, and set out reasons why,’ Ofcom said in a statement.

Morgan was interviewing Christian magistrate Richard Page about gay marriage on the popular ITV breakfast show.

When asked if he agreed with gay marriage, Mr Page said he did not, to which Morgan replied, “So, you’re a homophobe then?”

Ofcom received a total of 70 complaints relating to the interview but concluded, ‘Overall, the interview was balanced and we found no evidence of discrimination.’
