Old boys make the grade
A new Government Minister has paid tribute to his Catholic education.
Paul Maynard, MP for Blackpool North and Cleveleys, promoted from Under Secretary for Transport to the Whip’s Office, said his time at St Ambrose College, Altrincham, played a vital part in his life.
Mr Maynard said: “St Ambrose for me will always be a place that gave me an opportunity that I might not otherwise have had and encouraged me to aim a high.
“It was never less than stimulating, and my memories will always be fond ones, not least of the staff.” Mr Maynard, who was at St Ambrose from 1986 to 1993, recalled his successes and welcomed his new challenge.
“My new role is a wonderful challenge at a key time for the Government,” added Mr Maynard, who suffers from cerebral palsy.
Meanwhile, St Ambrose College’s Principal, James Keulemans, paid tribute to Mr Maynard as well as another of the college’s alumni Damian Hinds, now Secretary of State for Education.
“We always follow with the greatest interest the careers of our Old Boys. Damian and Paul were outstanding students,” said Mr Keulemans.
