Nun saw me first, says Keegan
Former England star and manager Kevin Keegan has revealed that the first scout who saw his footballing potential was a nun.
Sr Mary Oliver spotted Keegan while he played for St Francis Xavier RC Primary School, Balby, Doncaster.
“She used to referee the games which was great as she had the black and white gear already,” the former Newcastle star told Radio 5 Live.
Sr Mary Oliver told Keegan that his “schoolwork could be better” and that he was “a bit of a class idiot” but she gave him glowing praise for his football ability.
Keegan was discussing his new book, My Life in Football, on 5 Live Sportsweek with Garry Richardson.
