Hexham and Newcastle welcomes Robert Byrne as new bishop
The Right Reverend Robert Byrne, C.O. (Congregation of the Oratory of St Philip Neri) was installed as the 14th Bishop of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle on Monday, 25th March in the Cathedral Church of St Mary, Newcastle upon Tyne, on the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord.
Celebrations were led by the Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Nichols, Archbishop Malcolm McMahon and 36 other archbishops and bishops. The clergy were joined by 209 priests and deacons from the diocese and other dioceses.
Joining in the emotional service were members of the new bishop’s family and many friends, and proceedings were watched by a number of clergy and civic dignitaries, including the Apostolic Nuncio, Edward Adams.
