Everybody Loves Raymond actress prays for Kanye to be strong in face of ridicule
Emmy Award-winning actress Patricia Heaton has warned Kanye West that people will ridicule him for his faith.
The devout Catholic comedian, who is best known for her sitcom roles as Debra Barone in Everybody Loves Raymond and Frankie Heck in The Middle, revealed she is praying for the rapper who earlier this year proclaimed he is a born-again Christian.
“It’s very hard. I think when someone of his stature in the industry and someone who has his amount of fame makes that kind of proclamation, people then really watch and scrutinise everything he does to catch him falling down,” Heaton told The Christian Post.
“I hope that he is able to handle that, because that’s what’s going to happen.
“People want to see him fail at Christianity,” she added.
However, the actress, who recently began working on US comedy Carol’s Second Act, stressed the importance of faith.
“I think that if you have the Christian perspective that this time we have on Earth is actually very small compared to eternity, and that our lives are so filled with nonessential information — especially with the advent of social media — there has to be someone talking about eternal things and talking about our souls, and people actually are hungry for that, even if they aren’t aware of it.
“People are crying out for meaning in their life and for something that lasts, something that’s not temporary,” she added.
Heaton has previously been ridiculed for her faith but she insisted that this would not stop her speaking openly about her beliefs and spreading God’s message.
“We’re created for eternity. We’re not created for temporary life. So I feel that even if I get pushback on it, or people think I’m weird or strange, that there’s somebody out there that wants to hear this, that’s craving that message,” she said.
