Down’s boy is new face of US baby food
Catholic life peer Lord David Alton of Liverpool has praised a US baby food company after it announced that a boy with Down’s Syndrome would be the new face of its brand.
Lucas Warren has made history after being named the 2018 Gerber Baby and, essentially, America’s cutest baby.
The 18-month-old from Dalton, Georgia, is the first child with Down’s syndrome to receive the honour after he was selected as the ‘2018 Gerber Spokesbaby’ from more than 140,000 photos.
“Well done Gerber for selecting Lucas, a baby with Downs, as their Gerber baby for 2018,” Lord Alton told The Universe. “Lucas was chosen from 140,000 entries. Perhaps their welcome choice will challenge UK laws and attitudes that permit abortion up to birth of babies with Down’s, laws that lead to 90 per cent of British Down’s babies being killed.
“Perhaps Lucas’ amazing smile will soften a few hearts.”
As the grand prize winner, Lucas’ family receive $50,000 (approx. £36,000) and he will be given the coveted title of ‘2018 Gerber Spokesbaby’ and take a front seat on Gerber’s social media channels throughout the year.
