Claiming to be a perfectionist is blasphemous, Kanye West warns

Claiming to be a perfectionist is blasphemous, Kanye West has warned, insisting that it is only God who is perfect.

The US rapper’s warning came as he recently joined James Corden for ‘Airpool Karaoke’.

The rapper has long been linked with an appearance on The Late Late Show’s popular Carpool Karaoke, with Corden previously revealing West had cancelled three times.

He finally made an appearance of sorts during this week’s episode.

However, in a twist befitting an artist with the grandiose pretensions of West, he and Corden ditched the usual 4×4 and instead took to the skies in a jet packed with the musician’s Sunday Service choir.

During the flight West, who has just released his latest studio album, Jesus Is King, opened up on family, religion and his struggles with mental health.

Speaking to Corden, whilst sat on the jet surrounded by his choir, West said he believes it was always God’s plan for him to suffer with a mental breakdown and debt problems prior to his spiritual awakening.

“God’s always had a plan for me. He always wanted to use me but I think he wanted me to suffer more and wanted people to see my suffering, see my pain and put stigmas on me and have me go through all the human experiences. So, now when I talk about how Jesus saved me, more people can relate to that experience,” West said.

Opening up further on his problems, West revealed that many people were praying for him at the time.

“People in my family were praying for me, but they couldn’t call me and scream at me. I’m a grown man,” he said. “But it was God that came and put this thing on my heart and asked if I was ready to be in service to Him.”

Asked whether he looked back on his past with regret, West said: “I have no regret and no shame. That’s the biggest thing, me being a perfectionist, that’s such a blasphemous statement to think that as a man you could perfect anything. God is the only thing that’s perfect, so the only thing that can be perfect is God’s plan.”

Jesus Is King, West’s ninth studio album, is heavily inspired by his Christian faith and has influences of gospel music.
