Champions League hat-trick hero shares inspirational Bible quote moments after historic win
Tottenham Hotspur hero Lucas Moura shared an inspirational Bible quote on social media moments after his dramatic second-half hat-trick against Ajax earned his side a place in this year’s Champions League final.
Moura, a devout Catholic, took to Instagram to share an image of himself on his knees with his arms outstretched moments after he scored the deciding goal deep into added time. Accompanying the photo, the Brazilian striker quoted Luke 1:37, writing: ‘“For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Luke 1:37.’
Spurs were dead and buried at half-time in the second leg at the Johan Cryuff Arena last night, as they trailed Ajax 2-0 on the night and 3-0 on aggregate after goals from Matthijs De Ligt and Hakim Ziyech.
However, the north London side pulled off a miraculous comeback, spearheaded by Moura and completed in the dying seconds of the game when he slotted home a loose ball to seal an away goals success and spark amazing scenes in Amsterdam.
It continues the remarkable progress for Spurs under boss Mauricio Pochettino, who has led the club further in Europe than any other.
Spurs’ incredible comeback also replicated Liverpool’s Champions League miracle from the night before when the Reds came back from a 3-0 first leg defeat to Barcelona, beating the European giants 4-0 in the second leg at Anfield, 4-3 on aggregate.
Both sides now progress to Madrid for the all-English Champions League final, which will be played at Atletico Madrid’s 68,000 (approx.) capacity Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Saturday 1st June.
