Carly Paoli to give back to community in forthcoming concert
World-renowned classical star and the voice of Pope Francis’ Jubilee Year of Mercy, Carly Paoli will perform at an exclusive Christmas concert next week.
Ms Paoli, whose rendition of Ave Maria was chosen as the official song of the pope’s 2016 Jubilee celebrations, will take part in a concert at St John The Baptist’s CofE Church, Devizes, Wiltshire, on Friday 21st December.
The concert is being held to raise money for the Devizes charity of Caenhill Countryside Centre, who work with and support children and young people by providing courses, placements and hands on experiences in a rural setting. As well as raising funds, the event aims to bring together the local community including the volunteers and families the charity works with.
Recently an ambassador for BBC Music Day, BRIT nominated classical singer Ms Paoli paid a visit to Nursteed Community Primary School in October, where she worked with the pupils through a music session of vocal exercises, learning a song and performance. Following her visit to Nursteed, a neighbour picked up on Ms Paoli’s passion for using her gift to help others and asked if she would host a concert to raise funds for Caenhill Countryside Centre. Ms Paoli is excited to see music bringing the local community together once again.
“As a newcomer to Wiltshire and in particular, Devizes, I was thrilled when a neighbour knocked on the door to enquire if I would be willing to perform a concert to raise funds for Caenhill Countryside Centre,” said Ms Paoli. “I had heard lots of wonderful things about the work at Caenhill and how the centre has helped and touched the lives of so many children and young people by promoting rural crafts and skills.
“Christmas is a time to give back and recognise all the blessings in our lives, so it fills me with joy to be able to share my music with my local area. I hope that by holding the concert, we can do something really special together for Caenhill Countryside Centre. I would also like to thank my local community for such a warm welcome to this beautiful area. My family and I certainly don’t feel like newcomers anymore.”
Helie Franklin, Project Manager for Caenhill Countryside Centre has also expressed her excitement for the event saying: “We can’t thank Carly enough for her generosity. We’re currently looking to develop a roundhouse to expand the range of skills with an area for rural crafts and music, which we can offer to those we support. The proceeds for the concert Carly is hosting will go a long way to making this dream come true, as well as helping us continue to offer vital support to young people.”
