Archbishop of Minsk visits Leeds Trinity University

The Archbishop of Minsk visited Leeds Trinity University last week after receiving permission to found a Catholic university in Minsk, Belarus.

Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz visited Leeds Trinity University on Thursday 28th January in a bid to further his understanding of institutions with Catholic foundations and begin to form a partnership for guidance and support.

Professor Margaret House, Vice-Chancellor of Leeds Trinity University expressed delight at his visit. “Given Leeds Trinity University’s Catholic foundation, we were delighted to welcome the Archbishop of Minsk and showcase our work and the success of our students,” she said.

“In fewer than 50 years, Leeds Trinity University has transformed itself from two small Catholic teacher training colleges to an acclaimed University with an excellent track record for launching the careers of its students.

“We’re confident that this was reflected during the Archbishop’s visit. We’ll continue to impart our knowledge and expertise in order to assist the formation of the new Catholic University in Minsk.”

During his visit, the archbishop celebrated Mass, met staff and students, took part in a lecture and had dinner with the Executive.

This year marks 50 years since Leeds Trinity University was founded as two original Catholic teacher training colleges in 1966: Trinity College for women and All Saints College for men. The two colleges merged to become Leeds Trinity & All Saints in 1980. In 2012, the institution was granted full university status and became Leeds Trinity University.
