Abortion protests in Dominican Republic
Catholics protest against the legalisation of abortion with signs that read in Spanish “For life” outside Congress in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Tuesday, 9th December, 2014.
Dominican Republic’s President Danilo Medina recently vetoed a bill that would increase penalties against women who abort and the doctors who help them, from five years in jail to 10. The same bill depenalised abortions in cases of “necessity,” but Medina asked Congress to be more clear on when abortion would be allowed. (
